CAE BYW (living field)

Bringing Threatened Plants back into the landscape

Working with specialist botanists, farmers, schools and volunteers, Fieldwork is helping protect some of Wales's rarest arable plants. Unsprayed cereals, cultivated margins and careful monitoring provide habitat for species such as Stinking Chamomile, Field Woundwort and Corn Spurrey, while creating opportunities for people to discover the extraordinary biodiversity found within farmland on their doorstep.

HEDGEROWS & WILDLIFE

Creating Connected Habitats

Slade Farm has around 26 km of hedgerows, creating a network of habitat across the farm. Fieldwork is exploring how these living boundaries support wildlife, including bats, while remaining part of a productive farming system. Hedge laying, coppicing, bat surveying and volunteer monitoring are helping us understand and strengthen these important wildlife corridors.
